Barcelona boss Xavi names Man Utd star as toughest opponent

Barcelona took on Manchester United in the Europa League last term and it appears manager Xavi has been left with a lasting impression by one Red Devil in particular

Barcelona boss Xavi has claimed that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is the toughest opponent his side have faced.

The former midfielder is set to oversee his 100th game as Barcelona’s manager during their Champions League clash with Porto in midweek. Ahead of that fixture, Xavi was asked by the Spanish press to run the rule over his coaching career so far.

Two of the many matches that he’s presided over have been against Premier League outfit Man Utd. The two sides faced off in the Europa League play-offs last term, with Erik ten Hag’s team running out 4-3 winners on aggregate.

They drew 2-2 at the Camp Nou before United came from behind to win at Old Trafford. Rashford, a scorer in the first leg, has left a lasting impression on Xavi. Asked by Mundo Deportivo who the toughest opponent his side have come up against during his time at Barca, he replied: “Rashford cost us a lot. Also Vinicius, [Karim] Benzema…”
