 In the world of what could have been, fans have missed out on a Timothée Chalamet cameo in the new Barbie movie. And it no doubt would have been glorious. The Oscar-nominated Dune actor, 27, has worked with Barbie's co-writer and director Greta Gerwig a few time now, first in 2017's Lady Bird – her solo directorial debut – and again for 2019's Little Women, where he played Laurie. Just like his co-star both times, Saoirse Ronan, Gerwig actually planned to have him appear in her upcoming irreverent summer blockbuster based on the iconic Mattel doll, but unfortunately timings didn't quite work out. 'Well, it was always going to have to be like a sort of smaller thing because she was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for,' Gerwig explained of Ronan's eventually scrapped cameo. 'And of course, it's brilliant. But it was going to be a specialty cameo.' Both of them couldn't do it and I was so annoyed.' Sharing her love for them, the 39-year-old admitted that doing Barbie without either of them appearing in it 'felt like doing something without my children'. 'I mean, I'm not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom,' she added. Ronan previously revealed that she had had to give up on filming a cameo in Barbie when the movie was shooting in her adopted hometown of London as her filming on upcoming movie The Outrun in Scotland clashed.
