Representatives of the ATP and WTA tours will meet in London later this month to discuss the next steps in moving towards a merger of the men’s and women’s professional circuits.
There have long been calls for the ATP – Association of Tennis Professionals – and WTA – Women’s Tennis Association – to unite by taking charge of both tours as one single governing body. The most notable backer in recent years was Roger Federer, who posted a message on social media three years ago that read: “Just wondering, am I the only one thinking that now is the time for men’s and women’s tennis to be united and come together as one?”
