A guest on BBC One show Antiques Roadshow was left in disbelief over the staggering worth of a bowl which belonged to his mother after the true value was revealed by an antiques expert
Two Antiques Roadshow guests were left utterly gobsmacked after a bowl which they had ‘lying around their house’ for years was valued at a staggering £55,000.
BBC One viewers couldn’t believe their ears when they heard antiques expert Lars Tharp share the true valuation of the Japanese decorative bowls which were adorned with hand-crafted paintings of dragons and other elements of Japanese culture.
Opening up about the antique family item, the contributor – who appeared on the show with a younger woman – explained that although the bowl had been in his family for several years, he knew nothing about them, but finally felt compelled to get them valued after guessing they could be worth some money.
The guest further explained that his beloved mother used to own the bowl, and in his family home, there was actually a bit of a collection of the pieces, as his mum owned another one which was unfortunately broken while someone was playing a game of football in her house.
