Ange Postecoglou wants to sign another centre-back at Tottenham (Image: Getty) Ange Posteocoglou has confirmed he is still open to the prospect of signing another central defender before the summer transfer window closes. The Aussie has made the admission in light of the arrival of Micky van de Ven, who joins the club from Wolfsburg in a deal worth £43million including add-ons. Yet Spurs could still make further adjustments to their backline as Postecoglou is mindful that several defenders could yet depart in the coming weeks. Joe Rodon is set to join Leeds on loan while Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga remain in talks over possible exits. Speaking after the 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in Catalonia on Tuesday night, Postecoglou refused to rule out further reinforcements at the back. When quizzed if another centre-back was on the agenda, the ex-Celtic head coach replied: ‘Yeah potentially [signing another central defender]. Tottenham are interested in signing Perr Schuurs from Torino (Image: Getty) ‘Again we’ve got to make sure that we keep the squad manageable and see what happens with outgoings, but yeah the potential is there to bring in one more.’ Tottenham have added a new target to their shortlist in the form of Torino’s Perr Schuurs. Crystal Palace have also been looking at the Dutchman who moved to Torino from Ajax last summer. Ajax would be entitled to 15 per cent of any fee Torino receive meaning the Italians are likely to drive a hard bargain. Spurs have also explored a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba but he will not come cheap. The club’s spending power could be heavily influenced by what happens with Harry Kane’s future. The England captain remains the subject of strong interest from Bayern Munich and they are now ready to bid £95m for the 30-year-old. Tottenham are adamant they do not want to sell but they may be left with no other option if that kind of money is tabled as Kane has less than one year left on his contract. Postecoglou was also full of praise for Tottenham’s new signing Van de Ven, who could be in contention to face Brentford on Sunday in the opening Premier League fixture. He said: “Micky van de Ven we’ve been on to for a while. Just a great profile for a centre-back particularly for the way we want to play. Physically he’s quite commanding and he’s got a real presence about him. He’s a left-sided centre-back which helps in the structure of the team. “Really ambitious young man. He’s only had a year in the Bundesliga. He was at Volendam before that. It’s not like he was at a big club before that. He’s making strides and hopefully this jump is another one with which we see him really develop. “For us, he’s one not just for this year but for the long term that we felt can become a really important part of our team and will be a really excellent defender for us.”
