Andre Onana, who will replace David de Gea as Manchester United’s number one goalkeeper, has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford with the option of an extra year
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan in a deal worth £47million – with the new recruit pointing out the club has a long history of top goalkeepers in a nod to David de Gea.
Onana, who will replace De Gea as United’s No.1, has signed a five-year deal with the option of an extra year. The Cameroon international goalkeeper played under United boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax, were he won three league titles and two KNVB Cups, before joining Inter last year.
Last season Onana won the Coppa Italia and recorded the most clean sheets in the Champions League, en route to the final, where Inter lost to Manchester City. The shot-stopper said: “To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for. Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years.
