New Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana announced his retirement from international football last year after a falling out with Cameroon boss Rigobert Song
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has explained his decision to reverse his international retirement ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Onana announced his retirement in December after a falling out with Cameroon boss Rigobert Song that resulted in him getting sent home from the World Cup. However, he has now been recalled for Cameroon’s AFCON qualifier against Burundi.
“It all depended on him,” Song said when discussing Onana’s return. “He knew what he had to do. If he’s on the list, it’s because he did the right thing. He’s one of the best goalkeepers.
“The door was always open. There was never a problem with Andre. Today, we are satisfied that he is reunited with the group.” In an apparent response to Song’s comments, Onana cryptically posted a picture of a flower on social media with the caption: “le mensonge donnes des fleurs mais pas de fruits”, which translates to English as “lying gives flowers but no fruits.”
