Amsterdam bans cruise ships curb tourist numbers cut pollution

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Amsterdam has banned cruise ships from the city centre as it tries to reduce tourist numbers and cut down on pollution.

The news follows the launch of a campaign earlier this year called Stay Away, targeted at young British men planning to visit for rowdy, boozy and drug-filled pub crawls and stag parties.

The Dutch centre-right party D66 said cruise ships do not fit with the the city’s sustainability ambitions.

Its proposal to shut Amsterdam’s cruise ship terminal east of its main railway station was supported by a large majority of the city’s council, the party added.
