Alfa Romeo look set to hand a new contract to Zhou Guanyu with team principal Alessandro Alunni Bravi revealing the team’s desire to retain both the Chinese driver and team-mate Valtteri Bottas for the 2024 season. The Italian outfit’s driver line-up has been a topic of contention ahead of the summer break and the start of F1’s ‘silly season’. Many expected Zhou’s seat to be one of the few up for grabs for F1 hopefuls this summer, but the 24-year-old looks set to retain his place in the team for at least another season. Zhou’s introduction to the paddock came amidst a flurry of criticism, triggered in part thanks to his considerable financial backing and certainly not aided by Alpine’s failure to find an available seat for F2 champion and then-academy driver, Oscar Piastri. However, F1’s first Chinese driver has proven his worth during his season and a half in the series.
