Aldi gives workers third pay rise this year in face of cost of living crisis

Aldi has given staff their third pay rise in 12 months to help them through the soaring cost of living.

The budget supermarket chain announced starting wages will rise to £11 per hour nationally, while those working in the Greater London area will have theirs increased to £12.45.

The new minimum pay rate is now higher than the living wage, which was raised to £10.90 in September following inflation and the cost of living crisis.

Giles Hurley, chief executive officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: ‘We are incredibly proud of every single member of Team Aldi.

‘And we are pleased to become the first UK supermarket to pay a minimum of £11 per hour to all store assistants, exceeding the Living Wage Foundation’s recommended real living wage.’
