Alcaraz dumped out of Swiss Indoors after losing to Auger-Aliassime

Felix Auger-Aliassime put on a tennis clinic to brutally dismiss world No.1 Carlos Alacaraz 6-3 6-2 in the semi-final of the Swiss Indoors in Basel. The No.3 seed secured a dominant third straight win over Alcaraz to progress through to the final and extend an impressive 12-game win streak.Auger-Aliassime has won consecutive tour level crowns in Florence and Antwerp and will now be hot-favourite to add another title in Basel on Sunday after this imperious showing against the game’s most exciting young star.Auger-Aliassime, in the form of his young life, started ominously with dominant early holds. The Canadian star lost just two points in his first four service games and Alcaraz had no answer. Alcaraz was not as convincing on his own serve and Auger-Aliassime continually threatened to break. The Spaniard looked flustered and Auger-Aliassime had the aura of a man intent on dispatching his twelth straight opponent. The talented duo, the future of men’s tennis, are great friends and practice partners off the court but Auger-Aliassime was ruthless in an inspired first set. The 22-year-old executed his plan to perfection as he left his opponent reeling with a true exhibition of varied serving. JUST IN: Nadal set to replace Federer as Kyrgios also in line for recognition Auger-Aliassime brilliantly beat Alcaraz (Image: GETTY )Alcaraz was eventually broken in his fourth service game, and Auger-Aliassime raced through on his own serve to take an impressive first set 6-3 in just 39 minutes. The unusually overwhelmed US Open champion Alcaraz was restricted to just one winner in the whole set, testament to his opponent’s aggressive defence. And just one point won on Alcaraz’s own second serve pointed to Auger-Aliassime’s complete domination in all areas in a high-quality first set. The inspired Auger-Aliassime then put together arguably the best return game of the tournament, winning four straight exquisite points to break once more and gain a strong foothold early on in the second. DON’T MISSMedvedev unable to play new United Cup as boss confirms Russia banNick Kyrgios makes Novak Djokovic Australian Open pleaTsitsipas’ dad gets umpire warning days after Greek star swore at him Alcaraz had no answer (Image: GETTY )Alcaraz arguably became too predictable on serve and it soon became clear that not even a player with the hitting power of the 19-year-old could live with the in-form Auger-Aliassime. He cut a frustrated figure after missing out on a rare opportunity to break back after going 30-0 ahead in the sixth game of the second as Auger-Aliassime held firm. Auger-Aliassime showed no signs of relenting and claimed a double-break cushion to leave himself on the brink. And despite some late Alcaraz resistance, he served out to seal one of his most impressive victories of the season as the Spaniard was condemned to just his second defeat in nine semi-finals. Roberto Bautista Agut or Holger Rune await for the sport’s most in-form star in Sunday’s final.
