Albuquerque fire: Thick black smoke soars into sky at Mesa Del Sol recycling hub

A massive fire has broken out at a recycling facilty in Mesa Del Sol, Albuquerque, New Mexico – huge plumes of smoke can be seen for miles around and emergency services have rushed to the scene

Thick plumes of black smoke are soaring into the atmosphere as a massive fire burns a recycling facility.

Social media users have posted several pictures online showing the huge fire, which appears to be very close to Kirtland Air Force Base. Authorities have said the fire is burning a plastic recycling plant in Mesa Del Sol in southeast Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The building has been evacuated. Emergency services have rushed to the scene and are attempting to put the blaze out. Precisely, the fire is burning in the 5300 block of Hawking Drive, per Bernalillo County Fire Rescue (BCFR). It was reported at 2:38pm local time. The cause of the fire is unclear as of yet.

A Twitter user, Katy @KatyDidDance wrote on Twitter: “any idea what’s burning in south Albuquerque? Thick black smoke south west of the base.” Another user, Elaine Hamilton @FaLL3nAng3L79 said: “Whoa!! I just looked out my office window and can see it from all the way up here (far end of Rio Rancho)”
