Adorable six-legged dog found abandoned may have second chance at life with surgery

The female Spaniel puppy was taken into Medivet’s Pembroke surgery, and after being surgically examined it was discovered that the puppy had some birth defects

A six-legged dog might be able to have its extra limbs removed after a worried member of the public rescued the creature.

The female Spaniel puppy was taken into Medivet’s Pembroke surgery, and after being surgically examined it was discovered that the puppy had some birth defects. The dog was then taken to Fenton Vets in Haverfordwest by Greenacres Rescue Local Authority Dog Warden and looked at by the vet on duty Charlotte Biddle. After being examined the puppy seemed to have two additional legs and two vulvas, despite being in reasonable condition.

The vet, Charlotte, couldn’t tell if the puppy was functioning properly and admitted her for X-rays and additional investigation for two days to look at bodily functions, WalesOnline reports.

These 48 hours showed that, although timid, the puppy was more relaxed when in the company of other dogs and thankfully is now settling well into her foster home. It was noted the dog looked like a mermaid so she was christened Ariel by staff at the vets.
