The Prince of Wales was on hand to present the England players with their squad numbers prior to flying out to Qatar, where they will play Wales in the group stages on November 29
Welsh actor Michael Sheen says Prince William’s visit to the England camp prior to them jetting off to the World Cup in Qatar is “entirely inappropriate” ahead of the two countries meeting in the group stages.
William – who became Prince of Wales following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September, when his father Charles became King – visited the England players at their St George’s Park training centre on Monday, and presented them with their squad numbers for the tournament.
A video on the England Twitter account showed William, who is president of the FA, shaking hands with manager Gareth Southgate and calling on him to present the players with their shirts.
The Prince of Wales is then seen greeting players including Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and James Maddison, before telling the squad that: “I’m really here to just point out that the rest of the country is behind you, we’re all rooting for you, enjoy it.”
