Accountants working on Grenfell Tower disaster win sex harassment payout

Fellow employee told workmates that the colleagues had bunked off work to sleep together

A senior accountant and his younger female colleague have won more than £10,000 in a sex harassment case after an executive colleague told workmates they were skipping work to sleep together.

Francis Austin had personally recruited Monika Newton to join his finance team supporting Kensington and Chelsea Council’s response to the Grenfell Tower disaster.

A tribunal heard how the ordeal caused Mr Austin “considerable stress and anguish”.

Ms Newton’s appointment antagonised his deputy Lesley Shields, who became suspicious they were “ducking off” to spend time with each other, the tribunal was previously told.
