Former Green Bay Packers icon Aaron Rodgers has helped the New York Jets by making a change to his salary structure and given a hint about his retirement plans in the process
Aaron Rodgers, the four-time league MVP, has made a significant change to his contract in an indication of his willingness to stay with the New York Jets beyond the 2023 season.
After spending his entire career with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers was traded to the Jets this off-season and has shown renewed enthusiasm playing alongside a strong roster. With the team preparing for training camp, Rodgers has restructured his contract to reduce his salary cap charge for this season to just £860,000 ($1.1m), creating additional financial flexibility for the Jets and allowing the team to make necessary moves during the season.
Furthermore, Rodgers has reconfigured his entire contract, spreading out his salary over the next five seasons, suggesting a potential long-term commitment to the Jets. Rodgers had signed a massive £118million ($150m) extension with the Packers in March 2022, including an option for the 2024 season worth £45million ($58m).
However, the Jets have now distributed his salary over multiple seasons, indicating their desire to keep him on the team beyond next season. Despite these positive developments, Rodgers has not completely ruled out the possibility of retiring after the current season.
