Major League Soccer held its annual Skills Challenge in the US capital of Washington D.C and it saw the return of an exciting and dramatic game loved by the fans
To the delight of fans, Major League Soccer decided to bring back ‘Goalie Wars’, with goalkeepers pelting balls at each other from close range.
The game was first brought to TV screens in the summer of 2001 when the San Jose Earthquakes hosted the All-Star Game at Spartan Stadium, and fans have been calling for its return since. Ahead of the MLS All Stars’ clash against Arsenal at Audi Field in Washington D.C., the league held its yearly Skills Challenge, which involved Goalie Wars.
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale watched the action from the stands and was left on the edge of his seat. Recalling memories of playing the game as a youngster, he said: “Goalie wars, so many memories growing up.
“I used to play it individuals, two v. twos. Twice a week, we use to play from the age of 10 to 16. It’s the first time I’ve seen it for a long time, and they put on a good show as well. But yeah, next time I come I want a proper go at that.”
