Domenicali said: "I am very saddened to hear the news that our friend Mauro Forghieri has passed away. "He was a huge part of F1 and Ferrari and leaves behind an incredible legacy for all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time." Lauda, who passed away in 2019, described him as a "tremendous engineer" in one of his autobiographies. Former Ferrari designer and technical director Mauro Forghieri has died at the age of 87.
Forghieri helped Ferrari win four F1 drivers’ championships and seven constructors’ championship during a 27-year stint with the team. He joined Ferrari straight from university as a trainee, before being appointed technical director by founder Enzo Ferrari.
