Vivianne Miedema given time off over burnout fears

The Dutch striker will miss Arsenal’s game against Leicester in the WSL but could be back to face Manchester United

Arsenal and Holland are to give striker Vivianne Miedema a rest until the end of the women’s game’s November international break.

It is understood her club and country both agreed the Women’s Super League’s record scorer could benefit from a breather, after a hectic schedule over the past two years, to minimise any risk of burnout and help the 26-year-old rediscover her top form for the rest of the campaign.

As reported by The Athletic, Miedema will therefore be out of the country for a break over the coming fortnight. Multiple sources have confirmed to Telegraph Sport that the aim is to simply allow Miedema to recharge her batteries.

That will see the former Bayern Munich player miss Arsenal’s trip to Leicester City on Sunday in the WSL, but she could be back in contention to face Manchester United in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday, 19 November. Both Arsenal and Manchester United have 100 per cent records in the league so far this term.
