Former Wasps chief executive Stephen Vaughan joins Yorkshire

Stephen Vaughan, a former senior management figure at Wasps and Gloucester rugby clubs, has been announced as the new chief executive at Yorkshire, almost a year after his predecessor resigned in the wake of the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal.

Yorkshire have been in a state of turmoil since Rafiq’s allegations and the subsequent mishandling of the case, and Mark Arthur, the previous chief executive, resigned from his post in November last year.

Sixteen members of staff were subsequently sacked after Lord Patel became chairman, but the club now face compensation payments of up to £1.9 million to former employees including Andrew Gale, the former head coach, after admitting the dismissals were “procedurally unfair”.
