Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea have all reached the knockout stages of the Champions League and will be looking forward to Monday’s last 16 draw
Tottenham completed a clean sweep for English clubs in the Champions League on Tuesday night, as they defeated Marseille 2-1 at the Stade Velodrome in France.
Spurs, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool will all represent the Premier League in the knockout stage of this season’s tournament, which resumes in the new year once the World Cup concludes. There are just eight games remaining on Wednesday.
As such, it’s becoming clear which teams the four English clubs could face in the last 16. Tottenham were set to finish second in their Group D – potentially handing them a tricky tie – but a last-minute winner Pierre Emile Hojbjerg ensured they finished top of the table.
As clubs from the same country are not allowed to meet until the quarter-final stage and can’t play their group-stage opponents again in the last 16, Tottenham could draw either Belgian side Club Brugge or Italian giants Inter Milan.
