Tom Brady’s Patriots promise, Robert Kraft’s wish and Bill Belichick’s decision

Tom Brady and owner Robert Kraft had a plan to ensure the iconic quarterback remained with the New England Patriots for the entirety of his career – but Bill Belichick was too serious

Tom Brady has hailed New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick as the greatest head coach of all time, saying the 70-year-old is “going to go down as the greatest coach of all time. He’s done an incredible job, certainly with the Patriots. … He’s an amazing coach.”

The two won six Super Bowl rings together with the Patriots, and were unquestionably the most incredible sporting team of the millennium. Now, they’re on different teams, and both seem within any chance on earth of winning another ring.

Despite becoming probably the best one-two punch since Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers, there’s something to be said for the fact their breakup was a long time coming and, when it did, few were surprised in any way.

Brady once stated: “I don’t ever want to play for another coach. I don’t want to play for another owner. But this is professional sports. I’ve seen some of the best players I’ve ever played with on other teams.” Just three years later, he was playing in Tampa Bay for a different coach, for the first time ever.
