Short power cuts ‘a possibility’ this winter but blackouts ‘a last resort’

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Brits may have to ‘accept’ regular three-hour blackouts this winter but only as a last resort, the National Grid has said.

The energy distribution company has had to come up with different scenarios it could use to deal with the possibility of a supply shortage from Europe.

If this happens, the first option will be to start re-using coal-fired power stations which have been deactivated but preserved.

Failing this, National Grid plans to look at paying households and businesses to reduce their energy use during peak times.
