The 2022 design pays tribute to the Snowman and Snowdog animation, which tells the story of a boy named Billy, who discovers the original snowman-making kit hidden under his bedroom floorboards. Billy builds the snowman and, with a little leftover snow, a snowdog. That night, the two come to life and Billy joins them on an adventure in a sequel to the original famous Christmas cartoon released in 1982. Illustrator Robin Shaw has worked with the Royal Mint to produce the design. Commemorative coins featuring children’s animation The Snowman and the Snowdog have been released by the Royal Mint.
The 50p coins were released to celebrate a decade since the release of the sequel to the beloved cartoon The Snowman on Christmas Eve in 2012.
Despite King Charles III now taking the throne, this collectable coin will feature Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait on the obverse, or ‘heads’, side of the coin.
It will not be in general circulation, so if you want one you’ll need to buy one from the Royal Mint.
