Find out what our betting expert is tipping for the Mayakoba Golf Classic
The eyes of the golfing world are on Mexico this week as the World Wide Technology Championship (also known as the Mayakoba Golf Classic) takes place at El Camaleon. With no DP World Tour or LIV Golf action, the spotlight falls on the PGA Tour.
Scottie Scheffler, who lost his world No 1 ranking to Rory McIlroy in the CJ Cup the week before last, is hoping to reclaim top spot by winning the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba – an event that is being skipped by McIlroy and the rest of the world’s top eight.
Scheffler heads the betting at 9/1 but his recent performances have left a lot to be desired, so he may not be as popular as usual. Representing the United States in the Presidents Cup in September, he did not win any of his four matches and he has lost some confidence in his putting.
A new putter went into Scheffler’s bag for the CJ Cup but it made no impact and he finished 45th, so the betting community may choose to look deeper in the Mayakoba betting for their selections.
