Women’s Rugby World Cup: Old hand Emily Scarratt and outsider Tatyana Heard looking to take England to the final

Canada were the opponents when Emily Scarratt’s fame soared, when “Scaz” became “Golden Balls” and kicked England to 2014 World Cup victory. Three penalties and her own match-sealing converted try brought her country a first women’s global title since 1994.

Eight years on, England are looking to become world champions once more and Canada are their semi-final opponents. Scarratt is one of four players left from England’s match-day squad that day (the 2022 starting back row being the others). This is her fourth World Cup and first outside Europe, a rare new experience for a player who has 106 caps and is the Red Roses’ highest points-scorer of all.

“This tournament has felt big, obviously being on the other side of the world is different
