Is King Charles right to ditch plans for a slimmed-down monarchy? POLL

King Charles III has scrapped plans to slim down the monarchy and chosen to keep 11 working royals in the Firm, according to royal experts. But do you support his decision not to streamline the Royal Family? Vote in our poll.Two months after the King’s ascension to the throne, sources have said there are ‘no plans’ to reduce the number of working royals. The Daily Express’ Royal Correspondent Richard Palmer claimed that His Majesty and royal advisors have ‘ruled out’ cutting down the Firm.Speaking on the Daily Express’ Royal Round-Up podcast Mr Palmer said he was ‘surprised’ by the news shared with him by sources close to the King.Host Pandora Forsyth questioned the U-turn, asking: ‘I thought the plan was when Charles took the throne, he would be slimming it down even further.’Mr Palmer responded: ‘I suspected this would have been a good time for the late Queen’s cousins to decide they could enjoy a few years of retirement having served the monarchy and nation. (Image: Getty)He continued: ‘What has been made clear to me on behalf of the King, or those close to him, is that currently there is no plan to cut the number of working royals.’When you look at what happens in other European monarchies, the UK has the largest number of working royals. ‘There is an argument that we have a bigger population and the Commonwealth as well, where an awful lot of work goes on. But in most monarchies, four or five people tend to represent them. It surprised me.’Working royals are the most senior members of the Firm and are typically close to the line of succession. They regularly represent the monarchy and conduct engagements for the Crown.
