Brian Facer is to step down as the chief executive of British Cycling three weeks after the announcement of a controversial new partnership with Shell UK.
A statement from the governing body said the decision had been reached by mutual agreement with the board and Danielle Every, the cycling delivery director, has been named as acting chief executive.
The news is not expected to have any bearing on British Cycling’s eight-year deal with Shell, which was announced on October 10. The organisation faced a huge backlash after the deal, with a significant number of its already declining membership saying they would either cancel or allow their subscriptions to lapse.
It was hoped Facer’s background as a commercial director would help British Cycling at a
