Max Turner (played by Paddy Bever) is at the centre of a grooming storyline in Coronation Street and viewers will see how the disenfranchised young boy will be targeted by a group of extremists. As the storyline unfolded on Monday, ITV viewers took to Twitter to hit out at Max’s step-father David Platt (David P. Shepherd).In the first instalment of the week, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) tried to warn David about Max’s new group of friends. Discussing the storyline, Coronation Street Producer Iain MacLeod said: “Overall, Max’s story is one about the grooming of a vulnerable teenager at a point where he’s feeling most alienated and disenfranchised. ‘The story will encompass the “traditional” recruitment techniques of extremist groups, and we’ll see Max befriended in person by older, mentor-like figures that will give him a sense of loyalty and brotherhood.’
