Arsenal icon Ian Wright believes Gabriel Magalhaes is the Gunners’ defensive weak link amid a worrying drop in form. The centre-back made a near-costly error in the north Londoners’ 5-0 hammering of Nottingham Forest on Saturday, just a week after penning a new five-year deal to remain with Mikel Arteta’s side. Gabriel collected the ball in the penalty area under little pressure, but the Brazilian bizarrely passed the ball straight to Forest attacker Jesse Lingard. The former Manchester United man failed to make the most of the mistake, with Aaron Ramsdale saving his tame effort. However, it was one of a couple of errors Gabriel has made in recent weeks. Ex-striker Wright believes Gabriel is one of the few reasons to be critical of Arsenal’s defence. The club’s second-highest ever scorer admitted the 24-year-old makes him ‘nervy’. That is the only thing, for me, if you are going to be critical of Arsenal’s defence, then you would probably say it’s with someone like Gabriel,’ Wright told Premier League Productions. ‘He does things which just make you a little nervy and that was another one.’Gabriel – a £27million arrival from Lille in the summer of 2021 – recently signed a fresh contract extension until 2027. Technical director Edu praised the defender’s performances. He said: ‘It’s great that we’ve agreed a new deal with Gabi. At 24, he’s still a young player and is part of our future. His performances since he joined us in 2020 have been very strong and his positive impact to our results have been clear for everyone to see.DON’T MISS…Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers offers Arsenal Youri Tielemans hopeMikel Arteta’s Arsenal fears eased in Forest win despite Saka scareArsenal star Nelson may finally prove Henry right after Forest double Arsenal ace Gabriel made a near-costly error vs Nottingham Forest (Image: GETTY IMAGES)
