Foodies have been left practically salivating at the sight of a hearty donor kebab toastie – inspired after the chef’s favourite ‘naughty’ takeaway – and are keen to give it a try
Toasties have come a long way since the days of a simple slice of cheddar and a bit of tomato, with a range of interesting cheeses and quirky fillings now readily available for more adventurous tastes. Now those who love nothing more than a hearty kebab after a big night out can fill their boots and feel revived once more, all thanks to what some believe to be the ‘ultimate hangover cure’ toastie.
As previously reported by the Newcastle Chronicle, husband and wife team Nicki Thompson and Dean Thompson are the brains behind the mighty ‘Doner Delish’, a doner kebab toastie inspired by Dean’s favourite takeaway treat. The couple unveiled their offbeat creation at their Mardi Gras No.58 food stall at Tynemouth Market, Tynemouth, North Shields, to rapturous customer reviews.
Toasted between two slices of sourdough bread, the Doner Delish is packed with doner meat, red onions, and cheese, drizzled with chilli and garlic sauce.
Co-creator Dean is said to be so partial to a kebab, his wife Nicki affectionately nicknames him the ‘Kebab king’.
