The small community on one of the UK’s most remote inhabited islands has secured the support of Scottish ministers in their attempt to negotiate better terms for the sale of their local castle.
The 40 or so residents of the Isle of Rum are up in arms about what they say are the terms for the disposal of Kinloch Castle by its owners, the countryside agency NatureScot (NS), to a millionaire investment manager.
With details still being hammered out, islanders fear that a proposed new road providing private access to the grade-A listed castle will cut the village of Kinloch in two, and claim that Jeremy Hosking, the prospective buyer, is seeking ownership of Rum’s hydroelectric scheme.
