Property owners in Scotland are set to be hit with a bill for hundreds or even thousands of pounds a year as the cost and scale of a new SNP licensing scheme has been revealed.
The fees for homes that are rented out are predicted to drive up costs for holidaymakers, business travellers and staycationers across the country. Anyone who operates without a licence could face a £50,000 fine or even jail.
New rules introduced by the Scottish government mean that anyone from traditional B&Bs to those who rent out a castle, house, single room, caravan, glamping pod, yurt or even a treehouse must now apply to their local authority for a licence.
