The actor Martin Compston has said he hopes that Mayflies, his new television drama, will open up the conversation about assisted dying.
The 38-year-old stars alongside Tony Curran in the two-part series which will be shown on BBC1 soon.
“It’s probably the most difficult, emotional job I have ever done,” Compston said. “It’s about assisted dying and two old friends going through that journey together.
“There’s a conversation to be had with that which hopefully we address.”
The programme is based on a 2020 book of the same name by Andrew O’Hagan, who later said he supported attempts to make assisted dying legal in Scotland
