The carrier cancelled the New York flight from Dublin and redirected the readers to Frankfurt where they were refused boarding

Here is this week’s question…
My husband, son and I were due to fly Newcastle-Dublin-New York with Aer Lingus on July 24. Due to “crew illness and extraordinary operational challenges” the Dublin-New York leg was cancelled with 48 hours’ notice. Aer Lingus suggested we fly to Dublin as planned, stay overnight at its expense, and fly via Frankfurt the next day. There was no other option to save our US holiday.
In Frankfurt we were refused boarding by Lufthansa which was operating the flight for United Airlines. Staff said they could see us on the passenger list but there were no tickets issued.
