The Goonies is an absolute cult classic, but unlike its fellow 1985 adventure Back to the Future, never received a sequel. For years the likes of star Sean Astin have said The Goonies 2 will hopefully happen one day. Steven Spielberg, who came up with the story, has shared what it will take.The Goonies, which is on Channel 5 at 1pm today, previously had a virtual cast reunion for the 35th anniversary.Host Josh Gad had managed to reunite the cast, director Richard Donner, screenwriter Christopher Columbus, soundtrack singer Cyndi Lauper and Spielberg himself for the special Zoom call. Following the news, Goonies actor Corey Feldman has publicly that it means it’s going to be much harder for a sequel to happen. Nevertheless, Mel Gibson is still going ahead with Lethal Weapon 5, so surely Spielberg could keep Goonies 2 alive too? I’m sad that Dick Donner is not there because he was a huge force in that.’
