The Goonies is an absolute cult classic, but unlike its fellow 1985 adventure Back to the Future, never received a sequel. Steven Spielberg, who came up with the story, has shared what it will take. The Goonies, which is on Channel 5 at 1pm today, previously had a virtual cast reunion for the 35th anniversary.Host Josh Gad had managed to reunite the cast, director Richard Donner, screenwriter Christopher Columbus, soundtrack singer Cyndi Lauper and Spielberg himself for the special Zoom call. The Frozen actor presented what was episode one of Reunited Apart, in aid of The Centre for Disaster Philanthropy. Then came the big question: ‘What is it going to take for you guys to make a Goonies sequel?’ The Goonies 2: Steven Spielberg on what it will take for a sequel to finally happen (Image: GETTY/JOSH GAD) The Goonies reunion (Image: JOSH GAD)Sadly, Donner since died in 2021 at the age of 91, when he was working on Lethal Weapon 5. Following the news, Goonies actor Corey Feldman has publicly that it means it’s going to be much harder for a sequel to happen. Nevertheless, Mel Gibson is still going ahead with Lethal Weapon 5, so surely Spielberg could keep Goonies 2 alive too? There’s even an IMDB page for the proposed film to release in 2027, despite there currently being no concrete plans for another.Whatever happens, original villain Robert Davi is up for returning, as shared in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.DON’T MISSRichard Donner dead: Superman and The Goonies director dies aged 91 [RICHARD DONNER]The Goonies REUNITE for 30th anniversary: What they look like now [30TH]Goonies 2 will NOT happen says Corey Feldman – And here’s why [GOONIES 2] Robert Davi (Image: GETTY)We asked Davi why he had Goonies 2 on his IMDB acting page and he replied: ‘Y’know that’s been there for 10,000 years, who knows!’Asked if he’d like to feature in a sequel given his character Jake was last seen going to jail, he replied: ‘Oh yeah, if everybody else was on board and it was a good script.
