Rishi Sunak urged to investigate ‘hacking of Liz Truss’s phone’

Rishi Sunak has been urged to launch an investigation into the alleged hacking of Liz Truss’s phone amid claims that the breach was covered up during this summer’s Tory leadership contest.

Spies suspected of working for Russia gained access to sensitive information when Truss was foreign secretary, including official discussions about the war in Ukraine, it is claimed.

According to The Mail on Sunday, details of the breach were discovered in the summer only to be suppressed by Boris Johnson, who was the outgoing prime minister, and Simon Case, the cabinet secretary, who imposed a “news blackout”.

Private conversations between Truss and her future chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, which contained criticism of Johnson, were also obtained by the hackers, potentially leaving them at risk
