Man Utd boss Ten Hag has Martial ‘hope’ that may offer January hint

The Manchester United head coach is ready to take a leap of faith with Anthony Martial as he views him as a key figure in the club’s season, with Ronaldo potentially set to leave in January. The French forward was in a prime position to start the season as United’s first-choice forward after Ronaldo was left out of pre-season due to personal issues before a hamstring issue denied him the chance. He has suffered from injury problems throughout the campaign, limiting him to just three league appearances, although he has scored two goals.Antony, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have been trusted to lead the frontline as a result, but according to The Mirror, Ten Hag is still hoping that Martial can be a key player for him this season if he manages to overcome his fitness problems. The reason behind the 52-year-old’s faith is that he has ‘accepted’ that the club are unlikely to sanction any further transfer movements in January, having spent a club-record £220million this summer on the likes of Antony and Casemiro.READ MORE: Ten Hag has clearly improved three Man Utd players from Rangnick era Cristiano Ronaldo: The Portuguese could leave but Anthony Martial is set to stay (Image: Getty Images)Even in the event that Ronaldo leaves United after falling out of favour under Ten Hag, United are expected to make do with their four attackers in the squad and revisit the topic next summer.Ronaldo was dropped by Ten Hag after leaving Old Trafford before their match against Tottenham had finished, despite the Red Devils winning 2-0 at Old Trafford. The Portuguese made a public statement to explain his motivation behind heading down the tunnel, but his frustration at being consigned to a bench role is unlikely to convicne Ten Hag he is worthy of a starting spot, even after he scored in the 3-0 win over FC Sheriff on Thursday.DON’T MISSMan Utd star Antony fires back at Scholes after ‘clown’ remarkTen Hag’s verdict on Ronaldo matching last season’s Man Utd goal tallyTen Hag hints at new Man Utd attack involving two players after win
