The Swedish film-maker Ruben Ostlund makes films that do the same. Ostlund’s method is to find an area in which human behaviour stinks to high heaven – the art world in The Square, or the world of the obscenely wealthy in his new film – then shoot take after take in pursuit of the moment human nature accidentally reveals itself. His films have the hilarity and plausibility of a blooper reel, or an episode of Candid Camera.
