Much of Gardner’s appeal stems from the eloquence and fervour with which he promotes DIY solutions to Ireland’s chronic shortage of affordable housing. He encourages homeowners, old and new, to reduce the costs, fuss and delays that usually plague renovation projects by overcoming their nervousness and equipping themselves with construction skills. Feel the fear and do it up anyway.
