Venture capital trust (VCT) season is in full swing and investors are eager to secure the generous tax breaks they offer while they are still open for investment, as well as the chance to back fast-growing fledgling companies.
VCTs are funds that invest in a basket of privately owned companies, typically 50 to 80. These range from tech businesses to consumer brands – the types of company that are often hard to access on listed markets. The meal-kit firm Gousto, the property website Zoopla and the investment platform Interactive Investor have all received VCT funding.
