Liverpool beaten by Leeds as Jurgen Klopp gives midfielder rollocking

Leeds have a new hero in the form of Crysencio Summerville (Image: GETTY)Leeds made a huge statement in thier quest for survival as they beat Liverpool at Anfield late in the day thanks to a winner from Crysencio Summerville. The visitors were in front inside just four minutes when Joe Gomez endured a moment to forget. His wayward back-pass rolled right past Alisson across the face of goal, where Rodrigo Moreno arrived to gratefully tapped home. The Reds responded well though and quickly levelled things up through Mohamed Salah, who converted at the back post but it would not prove to be their day as the Whites stole all three points at the death.Summerville is new Leads heroLeeds’ new No 10 Crysencio Summerville put his name up in lights with a brilliant winner for his side.He looks a real talent for Jesse Marsch and has now automatically secured hero status. The Dutchman is rated very highly at Elland Road and it wasn’t hard to see why at Anfield during one brief moment in the second half.Summerville used his low centre of gravity to evade Andy Robertson, while he also nipped in before compatriot Virgil van Dijk to earn a foul – showcasing his speed. He scored his first Leeds goal last week in the 3-2 defeat to Fulham and followed it up with a remarkable winner to prove he can be a real asset for Leeds moving forward in their quest for survival. Liverpool defender Joe Gomez gifted Leeds the opening goal (Image: Dutch TV)Klopp gives Fabinho rollockingFabinho’s strange season continued at Anfield as he once again struggled to adapt to Liverpool’s change of formation. The Brazilian, who is nicknamed ‘The Lighthouse’ has been really poor by his standards of late and he endured another difficult evening against Leeds before being subbed after 60 minutes. In the first half, Fabinho was shouted out venomously by Jurgen Klopp from the sidelines, who was furious with the slopiness of his defensive midfielder. The former Monaco man has been rather shaky in possession and although he thundered into some key tackles, he looks to have lost some mobility in his bandy legs. When he has a bad game, so do Liverpool. That’s certainly how it has seemed of late. Mohamed Salah pulled one back for Liverpool (Image: GETY)Elliott needs time…Harvey Elliott is evidently a supremely talented young player but he is not quite ready to be a regular Liverpool starter just yet.Given there are injuries, it would be unfair to say he’s not worthy of a place in the side but he is still very much an unpolished gem – which is why there should be a reluctance to rush his development.Elliott scored a brilliant goal in Amsterdam in midweek but his performance here against Leeds was slightly scruffy. He lost possession on a number of occasions and wasted some promising openings. He is also seemingly much more effective in a central position, as opposed to out wide. We are not yet seeing consistency from the 19-year-old but given his age, that is likely to come in time.To be playing regular football for Liverpool as a teenage says a lot about his potential and depicts just how highly he is rated by Klopp. He was subbed on the hour mark for Harvey Elliott.Gomez suffers World Cup blowJoe Gomez’s hopes of launching a late push for Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad suffered a body blow when he gifted Leeds an opener inside four minutes. The central defender swept up well on the right before playing a blind pass back to goalkeeper Alisson, who had already made an angle for his centre-back.Gomez did not see Alisson’s movement, meaning the ball rolled straight across the face of goal for Rodrigo to tap home. The 25-year-old recovered well and did not let the mistake have a negative impact on his game but it’s unlikely to have helped his cause in his quest for a World Cup spot in Qatar.
