Man Utd star Antony has already been warned about his showboating (Image: GETTY/BT)Antony insists he will not change his ways after causing fierce debate with his new trademark spin in the midweek Europa League win over FC Sheriff. Yet there were already signs early in the season that the Brazilian wanted to announce himself on the Premier League stage by showcasing his samba skills following his £86million summer transfer from Ajax.On his debut against Arsenal in early September, in which he scored, Antony pulled off some tricks in an attempt to torment his marker Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukrainian stood off the winger, who kept possession, but the incident did not please Gary Neville after the match, who laid into United’s new signing.Neville warned Antony he will be “kicked up in the air” if he continues to showboat, saying: “He’ll play a lot better in his general game. However, he’ll get kicked up in the air if he keeps doing things like that [showboating].”Antony hasn’t listened as he continues to showcase his trickery before later claiming he will not change…READ MORE: Man City boss Pep Guardiola ‘worried about Man Utd’ after Erik ten Hag title appraisal Antony caused outrage amongst some football figures with his spin for Man Utd (Image: BT Sport) Antony’s skill against Arsenal annoyed Gary Neville (Image: Sky Sports)”We’re known for our art and I’m not going to stop doing what got me where I am,” he wrote on Instagram on Friday. The former Ajax star was subbed at half-time on Thursday but Erik ten Hag was adamant the skill was not behind his decision…”I don’t have a problem with tricks as long as it’s functional,” said the Dutch tactician.”I demand more from him – more runs behind, more often in the box and more playing in the pocket.”When there is a trick like that, it’s nice as long as it’s functional. If you’re not losing the ball, then it’s OK – but if it’s a trick because of a trick, then I will correct him.”The 22-year-old has thankfully delivered on the field since arriving at Old Trafford, scoring in big matches against Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea.Paul Scholes was not best pleased with Antony’s antics, stating the Brazilian was “just being a clown” given the skill was not of any benefit for United.”I think it would have had a little something to do with it,” the ex-United favourite said on BT Sport.”You saw his reaction on the bench. I think it frustrated him. I just don’t know what it achieves.”I love a little bit of showboating, and entertainment but at least get the pass right. This country, any country, even Brazil.”They don’t want to see that, do they? I like to see skills and entertainment, I just don’t think it’s skill or entertainment, it’s just being a clown.”United return to action on Sunday when they host West Ham in the Premier League.
