Familiar feeling for Scotland as they suffer late heartbreak against Australia

Late heartbreak against Australia is nothing new for Scotland, but this instalment should smart all the more for how avoidable it all was.

This is far from a vintage Wallaby touring side and for long spells the hosts themselves were well short of their best, certainly when it came to attack and general discipline. Yet bar a tiny sliver of the second half’s opening moments, Gregor Townsend’s side were ahead from the 12th minute until the 70th, looked comfortable in defence and were marshalled impressively by Blair Kinghorn, the man charged with making a nation forget about Finn Russell.
