Brodie Retallick’s red puts autumn in doubt as All Blacks limp past Japan

New Zealand could be without Brodie Retallick for the rest of their autumn internationals after the lock was shown a red card in the second half of the All Blacks’ unconvincing win over Japan.

Ian Foster’s much-changed side kicked off their end-of-year tour with a 38-31 victory at Tokyo’s National Stadium but had to cling on for the last 14 minutes after Retallick was sent off for a dangerous clearout.

The All Blacks, who now head to Europe to face Wales, Scotland and England over the next three weeks, face an anxious wait to find out the severity of Retallick’s punishment. For reference, Ireland centre Bundee Aki was banned for eight weeks for a dangerous clearout in Connacht colours during a URC clash with the
