Mohamed Salah has chance to prove point against his favourite Liverpool opponent

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah hasn’t been in his best form this season, but a meeting with Leeds can allow him to show he’s still the player he was when he signed his new deal

“Of all the good performances Mo had for us obviously, this was for sure one of the better ones.”

That’s what Jurgen Klopp said on the opening weekend of the 2020-21 season after Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick to see off the spirited challenge of newly promoted Leeds United. At the time, it could have been put down as one of the best goalscorers in the league doing what he did against everyone, but it seems he quite enjoys playing against the Yorkshire club.

In four Premier League games and 289 minutes against Leeds, Salah has scored six goals – his best record against any team against whom he has played four or more times. As he prepares to take on Jesse Marsch’s men on Saturday, though, the Egyptian’s recent record casts some doubt on his ability to keep that run going.

A 1-1 draw at Elland Road was Salah’s only blank against the Whites, with the former Roma man coming on with his team a goal to the good but watching on as Diego Llorente rescued a point for Marcelo Bielsa’s team. Bielsa was in the dugout for all four games, including a 6-0 defeat at Anfield in February 2022 which left the Argentine fearful of relegation.
