Eddie Jones begins fitness blast before England’s ‘mini World Cup’

Eddie Jones has challenged England’s forwards to become 40 per cent fitter by the World Cup after putting the pack through a punishing training regime in Jersey, Mako Vunipola has revealed.

England are preparing for a four-match autumn series against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa that will begin their countdown to next year’s World Cup in France.

England signed off their four-day camp with an intense rugby session that was preceded by a fitness blast at the home of Jersey Reds.

The players were made to sprint from the goalline to the 22 on four occasions, with a down-and-up on every turn – and then repeat the set six times.

“The target is to do it ten times by the World Cup pre-season,”
