Eddie Howe says there is a chance Allan Saint-Maximin will return to the Newcastle team against Aston Villa on Saturday, although Alexander Isak is still some way from fitness.
Saint-Maximin has missed the last three games and made just five Premier League appearances this season due to a hamstring problem, but he is back in training and could be involved at St James’ Park this weekend.
‘There’s a chance,’ Howe told a press conference on the chances of the winger starting. ‘We’ll see how training goes today.
‘He’s made very good progress and I’m very happy with how he’s attacked his rehab and the work he has put in. There’s a chance we could see him.’
Isak is much further behind in his recovery from a thigh problem, though, and is very unlikely to be seen in a Newcastle shirt again before the winter break for the World Cup.
