Targets for greater diversity are not ambitious enough, according to Patrick Vieira, after a Football Association report revealed that clubs fell short of a pledge to hire more female and ethnic minority candidates.
The FA published its annual report on the Football Leadership Diversity Code for the 2021-22 season and the uptake from English clubs has been disappointing in hiring diverse candidates to senior management positions and coaching roles in the men’s game.
In terms of senior leadership, the clubs pledged that “15 per cent of our new hires will be Black, Asian or of Mixed Heritage” but averaged only 10.3 per cent. The FA, Premier League and EFL exceeded their pledge, reaching 15.4 per cent. Of the pledge that 30 per cent of new
