Production of 50p coins bearing an image of the new monarch began on Thursday and are set to enter circulation in December
The first coins to feature a portrait of King Charles III were inspired by the artist’s own childhood collection featuring George VI.
Production of the 50p coins began on Thursday. They are expected to enter circulation in December.
The coins bear an image of the new monarch designed by sculptor Martin Jennings, who was inspired by a collection of change his mother had kept from her childhood.
Mr Jennings worked painstakingly for a year, alongside experts at the Royal Mint, to create the portrait, using images taken to mark the now King’s 70th birthday in 2018.
